Every actor must develop a fluid, problem solving approach to the varied challenges presented by each role and each story. Matthew Arkin’s Technique and Scene Study Class draws on a variety of techniques and methods allowing the actor to build his own toolbox. Matthew's foundation comes from his own study with Uta Hagen, and so his teaching draws heavily on the techniques and exercises described in her books, "Respect for Acting" and "A Challenge for the Actor" -- as well as his forty-plus years experience in film, television and stage. Working on exercises, you will develop a flexible approach to address the specific issues and problems that will change with each part played, each story told. Technique is then applied to scene study, with an emphasis on script analysis, as you explore and isolate your own life on stage, and apply the lessons learned to find the core of each character you are playing: the desires of the heart that motivate you, the flaws and obstacles that stand in your way, and the actions that you must take to try to attain your goals.
